Why is the UK ‘actively preparing for war’? | BBC News
The UK must “actively prepare for the possibility of the UK coming under direct threat, potentially in a wartime scenario.” That’s a quote from the UK government in its 2025 national security strategy. Children fetching water killed in Israeli strike in Gaza, medics say | BBC News
Ten people, including six children, have been killed in an Israeli air strike while waiting to fill water containers in central Gaza on Sunday, emergency service officials say. Eyewitnesses said a drone fired a missile at a crowd queuing with empty jerry cans next to a water tanker in al-Nuseirat refugee camp. The Israeli military said there had been a "technical error" with a strike targeting an Islamic Jihad "terrorist" that caused the munition to fall dozens of meters from the target. The incident is under review, the military added. Subscribe here: http://bit.ly/1rbfUog For more news, analysis and features visit: www.bbc.com/news #Gaza #Israel #BBCNews

What does Angela Rayner's row with Unite mean for Labour government? | BBC Newscast
Today, the leader of the Unite union says Labour is not defending working people and they are turning away from the party "in droves". Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner was yesterday suspended by the union - and Unite’s General Secretary Sharon Graham says Labour should be ‘seriously concerned’ after the union voted to potentially rethink its relationship with the party, which could result in it formally cutting ties and funding. And Paddy and Laura give an update on what we know what happened to the Air India plane crash that killed 260 people in June. You can now listen to Newscast on a smart speaker. Mystery interstellar object could be oldest known comet | BBC News
A mystery interstellar object spotted last week by astronomers could be the oldest comet ever seen, according to scientists. Named 3I/Atlas, it may be three billion years older than our own solar system, the team from Oxford University suggests. It is only the third time we have detected an object that has come from beyond our solar system. The preliminary findings were presented on Friday at the national meeting of the UK's Royal Astronomical Society in Durham.
