Precious metals at the heart of future tech, green innovation
For more: https://www.cgtn.com/video At the 2025 Tengchong Scientists Forum, Wang Jianqiang, chairman of Sino-Platinum Metals Co., Ltd., told CGTN in an interview that rapidly evolving fields such as AI, next-generation semiconductors, hydrogen energy and fusion are driving rising demand for advanced precious metal materials. He noted that AI-powered research is shortening development cycles and lowering costs, enabling faster progress in catalytic technologies, chip packaging materials and key components for future energy systems. Wang also highlighted the important role precious metals play in green and low-carbon development, from automotive exhaust purification to hydrogen production and fuel cells. He stressed that recycling precious metals dramatically reduces carbon emissions compared with mining, making it a crucial pathway towards dual-carbon goals. The Tengchong Scientists Forum is being held from December 5 to 7 in southwest China's Yunnan Province under the theme "Science and AI Changing the World." The three-day event aims to foster greater international cooperation and exchange in scientific innovation. French first lady Brigitte Macron made a special visit to Chengdu city in southwest China, on Friday to reunite with her "old friend," an eight-year-old male giant panda named Yuan Meng (meaning "accomplishment of a dream"), who was born in France but later returned to China. This heart-warming reunion came as French President Emmanuel Macron's three-day state visit to China concluded. Brigitte Macron visited the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding to reconnect with Yuan Meng, the panda she helped name when it was born at France's ZooParc de Beauval. During the visit, Brigitte learned that Yuan Meng had adapted well to life in China and was being well cared for by the breeders. She expressed hope that pandas might one day return to France. When technology feels… human
For more: https://www.cgtn.com/video What happens when technology responds not to buttons but to human thought? In one day across Guangzhou, three very different answers unfold: mind-controlled rehabilitation systems that help bodies move again, urban AI that quietly eases traffic and daily flow, and cultural technology that turns sound, light and motion into immersive storytelling. In this vlog, CGTN's Yang Xinmeng documents how these technologies work not by showing off power but by shouldering part of the human experience: recovery, movement, emotion and expression. The result is a portrait of innovation that doesn't feel cold or distant but quietly present in everyday life.
